Rain, Rain, Rain

I know the old song goes, "Rain, Rain go Away", but that is not my sentiment.
I love a good rain storm. I love rain that lasts from morning until night. I love it exactly 6 times a year. Which is two more times than my corner of sunny Southern California gets it. :0)
But because it is an anomaly, I do love it and try to enjoy it to it's fullest....without leaving my house.

This morning at 6 a.m. I was awakened by the rain and wind. I smiled and went back to sleep, happy that the forcasted storm was actually happening. Upon getting up a little before nine when Addison stumbled in, I promptly opened all the drapes in my bedroom and in the girl's bedrooms as well as they all got up. I loved watching it rain, and I am thankful for the fresh newness it brings. It was a good day.

On another note, it was also a good night. My girls were all asleep by 7:30 tonight and that gave me the opportunity to jump on my treadmill and get a good run in. My 6 mile time is improving and that makes me happy. I did 6.5 tonight just to see what my time would be doubled for the half marathon. Yes, me, the girl that has never done an organized 5K is doing the Orange County half in May and I couldn't be more excited. My whole pre-Mom life I was an athlete, I was strong and fast and then I had kids and for a minute, forgot about that other part of "me". But now I am committed to finding her again. It won't be on the softball field for now, but running is something that I can do with the girls as they grow and that will be a good example for them. Addison often talks about, "Uncle Spencer and the big run", when we were able to support him during one of his marathons. It made an impact on her and that inspires me. So thank you Spencer for opening my eyes to what we can mean to the girls. Them watching me train is a good thing. I can remember my Mom getting up at the crack of dawn to walk around our block countless times before she would come in and get all five of us ready for school. That made an impact on me that I didn't even realize at the time. But I realize it now and if I can teach my children that fitness and their health is worth the early morning or the long run, I am doing them a service. I am thankful for the good examples in my family of what it means to be healthy.

(Just don't ask us to quit our Mt. Dew!! :)
